- Always know the value of your timber before selling.

- If you do decide to sell timber, make
sure the buyer
is
licensed
and bonded and always make sure
you are paid in full before any trees are cut.
- When selling timber, make sure you know exactly how many trees are to be harvested, and what their volumes and values are. Each tree for sale should have a mark on two sides of the tree and a spot below stump height.
- When reseeding skid roads and log
landing areas,
be sure to use a grass/legume mix.
This will help reduce erosion and is also
beneficial to wildlife.
- Tree planting should be done in
the spring.
The spring rains
will allow the young root systems to
become established.
- Mow wildlife food plots or openings during late summer every 2 - 3 years. Most
wildlife species are easily off the nest by late summer, and the infrequent mowing will help keep the woody species and multiflora rose down.

- Tree plantations should be
sprayed for weed competition
the first 3 - 4
years after planting. Keeping weeds from competing for nutrients with
the young tree seedlings is vital the first 3 years after planting.
- Timber Stand Improvement (TSI) should be considered after a harvest. This practice will help release the young crop trees from undesirables in the forest stand.

- Before selling your timber, be
sure you know your property lines.
If you are unsure, have a forester assist
you or have the lines surveyed.
