Food Plots

“Planting the Seeds for your Hunting Success”

Whitetail DeerWild TurkeyBobwhite Quail

Planting and maintaining food plots is one of the best ways to produce larger, healthier animals while increasing the number of deer your property can hold.

Native plant species usually have no more than 10 - 12 percent protein. When you offer wildlife a food source that provides significantly more protein they will typically favor that source over others. That's why food plots are so effective. Many of the available plant mixes average over 22 percent crude protein with some reaching an unbelievable 30 percent range when the soil is prepared properly.

Food plots can also greatly increase the amount of deer that the land can support if it provides food during the winter months. Even if you only plant summer or fall plantings it will still reduce the pressure on the foods that will be supporting the deer in the later winter.

Haubry Forestry & Wildlife Consulting works with land owners to analyze existing conditions that include optimum food plot site locations, soil pH, predominant weeds species, and available sunlight. Our wildlife management plans also investigates and provides for travel corridors, water availability, mast crop production, increased bedding areas, and summer vs. winter food sources.
